Dixit admited to ICU, Media Personalities demand his release

 

Kanak Mani Dixit who was arrested by CIAA on corruption case, has been admitted to Bir Hospital and getting treatment at ICU.Dixit was brought to emergency at Bir Hospital on Saturday morning after he suffered problem on his chest and heart due to high blood pressure. Dixit's wife Mrs. Shanta was allowed to meet him during his treatment.

At the meantime national and international media personalities, scholars and intellectuals have condemned the CIAA and demanded his immediate release. Those who voiced for Dixit included
journalist and media persons from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, USA and England.

Thirty four senior journalists published  a joint press statement demanding Dixit's release on Saturday.

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had arrested Dixit on Friday for his alleged involvement in corruption. Dixit, who is a senior journalist, human right activist, co-publisher of Himal Media and also the Chairman of Sajha Yatayat.

In a press statement CIAA has stated that Dixit had disobeyed CIAA's call several times to explain about his huge property which doesn't match with his income.

According to CIAA, Dixit owns property of more than 1.3 billion  outside Nepal and he and his family owned huge amount of cash and properties inside Nepal.

On the other hand Dixit has alleged CIAA that he is arrested due to personal dispute with CIIA head Lokman Singh Karki.

Dixit was against Karki's appointment as chief of CIAA calling him the supporter of Monarcy.
